The Best Two Player Board Games [AD]

AD // A disclaimer; whilst this blog is a paid partnership with Big Potato Games and the majority of the games featured in this blog have been gifted PR products, as always I would never promote anything I wouldn’t buy with my own money. These are my genuine thoughts on their games and I hope you love them as much as our family has done. Some of the links used in this post are affiliate links – this means that if you purchase from my link, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It’s a really small way to help a girl out!

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll have noticed that last year we were lucky enough to be gifted a number of board games from the amazing Big Potato Games. At times when one of us is busy and the other needs to keep Vincent occupied away from screens, they definitely come in handy to play just the two of us but in the past I have found it difficult to pick games for just the two of us! Before Christmas, I wrote a little gift guide on the best family board games but I thought I would also do one on two player games too as I know it’s not always possible to play them as a full family.

Both Vincent and myself have loved all of the Big Potato board games and have also found the concept of the majority of them quite unique. The majority of their games are plastic free, meaning they’ve gotten rid of that annoying, unnecessary shrink wrap you often get around cards and things in board games and also reduced the amount of waste. They also plant a tree for every game sold on their website, another great way to support the environment.

Two player games would be ideal for a date night in, a gift for a friend / family member or just for a bit of one on one quality time with your children. Big Potato also offer 48 hour free delivery on orders over £30 and you can use my discount code BBMUMGEEK15 for 15% off your whole order over on their wesbite!

1. World Football Rollarama

This one was obviously a huge hit with Vincent with him being football mad at the minute. We were also lucky enough to receive our copy of this during World Cup season which made it even more exciting. The game itself is just two players and honestly it’s so fun, we always have such a laugh when we play it! Each player is a word cup football team and stands their card up in front of them as their goal. Each player rolls a dice, if one gets higher than the other they knock that team out. If they draw, it goes to penalties and you have a mini shoot out flicking the dice at the other players goal. It’s only £13.99 and would be great for a night in with any football fan!

2. P is for Pizza

I did also feature P is for Pizza on my family board games list however the minimum number of players for this is two. We have played this just us two and it has been just as fun! P is for Pizza is one of our favourite games from Big Potato and is really easy to learn. It’s also quite compact / light weight so you could take it anywhere with you! It’s quite fast paced and Vincent always wants to play it over and over again. The game is aimed at 8+, however Vincent was playing this at 7 and picked it up really easily! It is only £12.49 and I think is a great addition to any board game shelf.

3. Colourbrain

Again, this isn’t solely a two-player game but we have played as a two and enjoyed it just as much! You can get a few different versions too so we have a junior and Disney version but there’s also a standard ColourBrain. They’re a really easy concept to grasp; everyone starts off with colours and tries to answer which colour is the answer to each question. Obviously the questions for the junior version are a bit easier than the others, with mainly questions that kids will know the answers to! Highly recommend all versions of this game for all ages, it’s so fun and keeps Vincent entertained so it’s a win for me!

4. Shoot for the Stars

Shoot for the Stars is another game that can be played with more than two players, but we have played this just us two and still enjoyed it so it’s made the list! This is a family trivia game where all the answers are numbers, there’s such a great variety of questions the game could go on for hours. You don’t actually need to know the exact answer to the questions, you just have to guess as close as possible without going any higher. It does look a bit complicated to set up but once you get going you won’t want to stop playing!

5. Dino Dump

Dino Dump is definitely more aimed at kids and is another small, compact game which is super easy to take on trips away. As a fan of dinosaurs anyway, Vincent loves it. It’s also super easy to play and very similar to Uno, with the overall aim being to get rid of all your cards. There’s also power cards to sabotage your opponent with the loser ending up in poo, which Vincent finds absolutely hilarious. This is only £10 and would be great for a night in as a two with one of the kids.

6. Blockbuster and Chill

We don’t actually have Blockbuster and Chill yet, however it’s on my list of ones I would like to get from the Big Potato website! This game is solely two-player and aimed at age 14+ so would be great for a date night or just spending time with a friend. It is obviously a movie based game, where the aim is to describe as many movie categories to your team mate against the clock to earn yourselves as many Popcorn Cards as possible. It’s only £12.99 too, so ideal for part of a cheap night in!

Do you have any other favourite two-player board games I haven’t listed here? Or will you be adding any of these to your board game shelf? If so don’t forget to use my code BBMUMGEEK15 for 15% off your whole order over on their website. Let me know what ones you go for in the comments 🙂
