Holiday Village Majorca

If you follow me on Instagram you’ll have seen that back in June, we had a week away in Majorca. This was meant to be 10 days in Morocco but because of all the airport / travel chaos in the UK recently our original holiday got cancelled but we did have the option to re-book another. We hadn’t travelled abroad since we visited Disneyland Paris in December 2019 because of Covid and a number of other things getting in the way, so naturally we were dying to get away again. Since myself and David both had the holiday dates booked off work, we opted to just book any holiday we could find during the same dates, which ended up being being Majorca for 7 days.

I won’t lie, initially I was a bit gutted about the messing round. I’ve really wanted to visit Morocco for such a long time and had planned different bits for our trip there. However, Majorca was somewhere we had all never been to and we decided to just try and make the most of it and I’m really glad we did as we ended up having the best holiday!

Me and Vincent outside the hotel reception

Also a disclaimer; none of this trip was gifted, we paid for it ourselves with our own money. Just writing this as an honest review for anyone considering visiting Majorca / Holiday Village.

Location

Holiday Village is a 4* apart-hotel located in the outskirts of Cala Millor. It is around 1 hour away from Palma Airport so keep this in mind for when you’re heading home so you don’t miss your flight! We pre-booked all of our transfers through TUI and would recommend doing similar to anyone else visiting otherwise a taxi may be quite expensive. The hotel also offers a free shuttle bus to Cala Millor beach, which took under 10 mins so it’s in a brilliant location! The bus driver was also playing party songs for the kids on the way there and back, which Vincent really enjoyed.

Room

We paid extra for a suite room just to give us some privacy when we needed it. We also had a balcony but requested this face away from the pool / hotel only because we were conscious that the entertainment may go on later than Vincent may have wanted to stay out for and we didn’t want the noise from this to keep Vincent awake if we had taken him back for an early night. Our view wasn’t amazing however it was exactly what we needed and we barely spent any time in the room/on the balcony other than drying off before we got ready to go down for tea / the night time entertainment.

Our balcony view

The room itself was actually really nice so it was a shame we spent so little time in it! It was really spacious and very clean. The beds were also really comfortable which is always a bonus! See the slideshow below for pictures of our room, Vincent’s bed was a pull out one from the couch and our bathroom. On our last day our flight wasn’t until late meaning we weren’t being picked up for the airport until around 5pm. We asked about a late check out and the hotel gave us our room until 4pm with no extra charge, which was great as it meant that we were able to spend our last day enjoying ourselves and still go back to our room and shower etc. Also no faffing about leaving cases behind reception so I thought it was great they offered this free of charge!

Kids Club

The kids club was brilliant, they had a creche (which we obviously didn’t utilise), a club for ages 3-8 and another for ages 9-15. Every rep we met went above and beyond to make sure Vincent had the best time and he really did enjoy everything he attended there. The majority of the activities are free however you do need to book your child’s space via the Holiday Village app. These are bookable 24 hours prior to them happening and they do book up very quickly so I’d recommend setting an alarm on your phone for when bookings go live if there’s any your kids are dying to do. All of the events have different themes so Vincent went to a wizards one, a cowboy one and they even did a carnival one which he loved.

They also have a few other parties which you need to pay a small fee for. These were the chocolate party, sweetie party and a kids disco which were all €9. You book these the day before via a rep in the pool bar and they took both card and cash when we were there.

Football / Swimming Academies

If you follow me on any of my socials you’ll know how much Vincent loves football at the minute, so when he realised the hotel had a football academy he was adamant he wanted to go. This was an additional £55 for 3 days but if you have a child who is interested in football I definitely recommend it as Vincent really enjoyed it and the coaches both seemed lovely. Sessions run from 9-11am most mornings however you have to pre-book which days you want your child to go on as they do fill up quickly. The sessions are run by 2 FA & UEFA qualified coaches and they were great with the kids. At the end of our week they also did a little award style ceremony for the kids and they all received a certificate which was a really nice touch. They also gave the kids Football Academy T-shirts which was handy as he could then get that one sweaty instead of his outfit for the day.

They do also have a swim academy which I think was around the same price however I can’t fully comment on these as it’s not something we opted to book. We could see them running throughout the day in one of the shallower pools and the sessions always did look fun. They also did a little award style ceremony the same night as the football academy which again was a really nice touch. These are both bookable whilst you’re there with the football / swimming reps in the pool bar area.

Kids entertainment

Aside from the kids clubs / sports academies, during the day there’s a number of other things to keep the kids entertained and the majority are all free. They have 6 pools to offer, all of which catered to various age groups/swimming levels. These included a toddler splash area and a family splash park, however we didn’t use these as Vicnent (7) thought there were just a tad too babyish! At the main pool every day at lunch time they played a game called bing bong bingo, everyone gets given a song and when the rep plays yours you jump into the pool, last man standing wins. The kids loved this and it then went straight into a 20 min pool dance party.

Vincent trying out the paddle boarding

They also had paddle boarding in the pool and an inflatable for the kids to go on multiple days throughout the week, you don’t need to book any of these you can just turn up and have a go. They do provide the life jackets Vincent is wearing in his paddle board picture and it’s obviously done in the deepest part of the deepest pool so if your child is’t very confident swimming these are a great option. They also did a pop quiz at the pool around 2pm every day which we managed to win on our last day. The reps were great and made such a fuss of Vincent, he even got a crown for winning!

The inflatable assault course

Holiday Villages have their own characters called the Widgets, which are in a lot of the night time entertainment shows and there is also plenty of opportunities to meet them throughout the day. The reps will announce this during the day and advise where to go and which Widget it’s to meet. This one Vincent is pictured with is Whatsit, which was his favourite one. You’ll notice in some of our photos Vincent also has his own plush of Whatsit. You can buy these from either the Holiday Village or TUI reps around the hotel of each character and they range from 10-20 euros (I think Whatsit was 15 but it says numerous phrases).

Vincent meeting Whatsit

On site the also had a high ropes activity you could book for an additional cost. None of us braved it (I think Vincent was just a bit too young for it) but it looked great! Near to the gym they also have a pool table and ping pong table, both of which were free to use. Because we were so busy enjoying everything else, Vincent and David only used this once whilst we were there but it could also come in handy if you’re waiting for an airport transfer!

Night time entertainment

The night time entertainment was always brilliant. It would start from around 7pm and would usually be the Widgets for the younger kids then would move onto the reps doing more dance party stuff for all the kids. Vincent really enjoyed this, it was different every night but there are a few key songs that all three of us quickly picked up the routines to and loved getting to dance to every night. After these there was usually a few quiz type games and then a show which again, the theme was different for every night. Throughout the week we were there they were; cabaret, soul, rock, EDM and one night they had a local rock band in who were also brilliant.

The Widgets show for the younger audience

I liked the lay out of the stage area, all of the tables are staggered up steps where you can all see the stage clearly and more importantly for me keep an eye on the kids. There were plenty of tables around the stage area so there was always somewhere to sit. The drinks options were really good too, with a selection of cocktails, spirits and mocktails for the kids. The bar queues did get quite long though so the only thing I would suggest is getting a few drinks at a time to save having to queue up as often.

Adults only

As a very much family orientated hotel, there obviously wasn’t much for adults only and no kids. However there were a few things David and I managed to fit in during the kids club times which we were both quite impressed with. My favourite being the adults only jacuzzi / relaxation pool. This was in a secluded part of the hotel away from the noise of the main pools and had some gorgeous beds around it. It was such a nice area to go and switch off in! My only complaint about it is that the jacuzzi doesn’t turn on until 10:30 but a lot of the clubs are 9-11 so we didn’t get to use it much properly during that time together. We did however both sneak off for the occasional half hour individually throughout the days for a little break and really enjoyed it.

Enjoying the adults only jacuzzi pool

We both use the gym daily here so we were keen to use the gym whilst there too but only managed to use it once. This was mainly because the air con in the gym was broken at the time of our visit so you can only imagine how hot it was to work out in. It just made the work out so much harder and neither of us enjoyed it. The gym was quite basic, but if you’re wanting to keep up your routine whilst your away you could make do.

Food

This can always be a bit of a gamble when you book an all inclusive holiday can’t it? I read a few mixed reviews before travelling so was unsure really what to expect, however the three of us were surprised by how good it all was! The main restaurant is buffet style and had a really great variety of options for every meal and something I was happy to see was that they didn’t repeat things (e.g. things from lunch out at dinner time) so everything was always made fresh and all tasted amazing. They had different themed nights too, whilst we were there they had a Spanish and Indian night and the food was so good.

If your kids are picky eaters they have a smaller kids buffet section which had some plain / beige style foods like chicken nuggets, chips, fish fingers and plain pasta with the sauce separate. We’re quite lucky with Vincent’s eating he is quite adventurous however I know this is something a lot of parents will utilise! They also had a chef available to cook food fresh like omelets for breakfast and later in the day grilled chicken/fish/steak or grilled vegetables, all of which Vincent loved.

The dessert station available at the Italian restaurant at the hotel

They also had 3 other restaurants; Italian, Asian and Indian. On arrival at the hotel you get given a token for one use at each of these. You have to book into them at reception prior to your visit so do this on your first day as they do book up very quickly! Highly recommend all of them though, the food at all of them was amazing and it was just nice to have a proper restaurant experience whilst there too.

Vincent enjoying his Indian food

During the day if you’re after snacks they have a smaller kiosk near one of the kids pools called Lemon and Mint which provided fresh handmade kebabs, chips and ice creams with all kinds of toppings. There was also a freezer with ice creams and lolly ices available to help yourself to all day in the main pool bar area.

Vegan Options

As most of you will already know, I am vegan and because of this I was partly dreading the food options. However, whilst it wasn’t amazing for vegans it also wasn’t awful. On our first morning I noticed they had a small gluten free section at the breakfast buffet however couldn’t see any milk alternatives. I asked a member of staff who informed me they had oat, rice and soya milk available on request and was more than happy to go and get me some oat milk to have with my cereal. There was also fresh fruit available at breakfast time plus the usual vegan options (e.g. beans, tomatoes and hash browns/potatoes).

At lunch and dinner times there was always fresh salads available, most were vegan and they also had bits out to build your own salad which I was always happy with plus a few other accidentally vegan options (e.g. chips, pasta with tomato sauce, grilled vegetables). At the Indian restaurant they had a taka dahl dish which was made with no cream and was delicious. The Asian and Italian restaurants also had vegan options available. The staff were all really friendly and helpful with this too.

Waiting for our transfer back to the airport in the gorgeous reception area!

That’s about all I can think of as the main points for now, but can hands down say I fully recommend visiting here if you’re looking for a family holiday in Majorca! We’re even looking at booking another Holiday Village hotel in one of their other locations for next summer already we loved it so much.

If you do have any questions please drop me a comment below and I will do my best to answer for you.
