If you know myself and Vincent, you’ll know how much we love a movie day. During the lockdowns we’ve made the most of Disney Plus and Netflix, we even had an at home cinema day to celebrate May 4th (Star Wars day), but it’s just not the same as a proper cinema trip is it? It’s one of the things we’ve missed the most during the pandemic so we’re really looking forward to them re opening today although not sure when our next trip will be just yet!
There’s a few releases we’re already super excited for this year, some are a bit later on in the year but hopefully if things stay as they are we’ll be able to watch them in cinemas.
Cruella
28th May
This one is a given for me with it being Disney, but we’ve loved all their live action films so far. I also loved their take on Maleficent with her back story so I’m super excited and hoping this is similar with it being a prequel to the 101 Dalmations movies. Also, how amazing does Emma Stone look as Cruella de Vil?!
Black Widow
9th July
As huge Marvel fans, this is probably the one myself and Vincent are most excited about. We were looking forward to it last year but he release was sadly delayed because of the pandemic. Again, this is another character back story I’m really interested in (although I do wish they would have made one about her and Hawkeye in Budapest). They’ve touched a bit of Natasha’s backstory in some of the Avengers movies but never really in depth. As a massive Stranger Things fan I’m looking forward to seeing David Harbour as Red Guardian too!
Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage
24th September
We were actually excited for the release of this last October however this is another one the pandemic delayed the release of. Now, even though Vincent loves Venom with him being part of the Spider-man franchise, he will not be coming to see this one with us. It’s one I really am looking forward to though, aside from Loki and Deadpool, Venom is my favourite anti-hero. I liked the first Venom film a lot, I thought they did a good job of portraying his character so I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes, especially with them now introducing Carnage. Tom Hardy is also very easy on the eye and it’s exciting to see Stephen Graham, a local Liverpool actor in it too so that’s another positive!
Ghostbusters: Afterlife
11th November
I grew up loving Ghostbusters and now Vincent us also obsessed. As a big Bill Murray fan this honestly makes me the proudest mum! Obviously this gives a nostalgic aspect for older fans like myself but there’s also new additions to the cast and personally, I’m really excited to see Paul Rudd in action. This is supposed to be like a second reboot for the Ghostbusters franchise so fingers crossed it’s as good as the originals. The mini pufts look absolutely adorable too!
Spider-Man: No Way Home
December 17th
Shockingly, here is yet another Marvel film for the list! This one is really exciting though as it’s following on from Far From Home. It’s rumoured Dr Strange is supposed to be taking on a new mentor type role now with the loss of Iron Man (this is partly confirmed as Benedict Cumberbatch is on the IMDb casting list), but there’s also rumours previous actors will return as part of the multiverse. Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield have both been rumoured to come back, similar to the Spider-verse. Unsure how I feel about this as I wasn’t keen on either of them as Spider-man but I am excited about this setting up for the next Dr Strange film, Multiverse of Madness. Wandavision has already hinted at a few things for this, so I imagine there’s a lot of excited Marvel fans looking forward to seeing their next step towards this!
Will you be heading to the cinema this week? Are there any movies you’re really looking forward to seeing this year?
Let me know in the comments, we are always looking for recommendations!
As much as I’ve enjoyed watching lots of films in bed, I’ve missed the cinema too! It’s the whole experience of the cinema that you just can’t get at home. Some of these films look great and I’m excited about Black Widow and the Eternals (which I think comes out this year) 😊

I agree, it’s definitely one of the things we’ve missed most during all this!

Ever since our theatre installed the most comfy reclining leather seats in place of the old flip-seat seats, I loved going to the theatre. I only went a couple times though, before the shut-downs happened, so it is encouraging to see places reopening.
I am looking forward to Black Widow, Spiderman, and Cruella too! The posters are eye-catching. I was in the dark about the new Ghostbusters, but my dad loves that movie so I will mention it to him. 🙂
Thanks for sharing!

I agree the recliners make it so much more luxurious don’t they?! I can’t wait for all of them. Hope you and your dad enjoy the new Ghostbusters 😊💖

I’ve been loving the home experience even before the pandemic but for a couple of movies, you need to see it on the IMAX screen for the pixels and the sound effects. I personally don’t go to movies that much but being able to see the anticipated actions is a huge plus.

Cinemas here in Malaysia are closed once again for the foreseeable future. Nice to know what might be on the way once they do re-open though. 🙂

Aw no, it’s awful isn’t it. I feel like we will go that way soon too the way we’re going. Some will be on Disney plus so could always use that to watch them 😊

My Mum got me a trial of Disney Plus for free and I’m ashamed to say I haven’t even used it yet. I really should get on that!
I share your excitement for the Marvel films, and my interest is piqued by Cruella. I always hated her in 101 Dalmatians so not sure how I feel about watching a film about her yet! Haha.

Gosh! I’m also looking forward to watch Cruella, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Shang Shi. I hope the Covid-19 situation in Malaysia will be ok soon. It’s just bad now.

I haven’t been to the cinema for so long, even before covid, but used to love going! Cruella sounds like a great live-action and anything Marvel is always a yes for me! x

Not a big cinemagoer these days, but Ghostbusters Afterlife may yet tempt me to the multiplex! My enthusiasm is definitely increased by the presence of McKenna Grace and Annie Potts as I am a total Young Sheldon addict! I am also looking forward to seeing the old guard return. Fingers crossed it’s as good as the cast promises.
